ARLINGTON, Va. – The Wireless Infrastructure Association (WIA) today announced that Mike Saperstein has been hired as the new Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Chief Strategy Officer, effective January 16, 2023. Saperstein, who previously served as a member of the WIA Government Affairs team, will lead WIA’s advocacy efforts at the federal and state level, acting as WIA’s chief strategist and advocate before federal agencies, the White House, and in state capitals across the country.
“Our wireless future depends on a strong infrastructure base, and the work to build it has never been more important,” said Saperstein. “It is a thrill to return to WIA to support the important work of WIA member companies working every day, in every corner of the country, ensuring all Americans can bring the world to their fingertips wherever they may be.”
“I am pleased to add a person of Mike’s caliber to our team,” said WIA President and CEO Patrick Halley. “Mike understands complex communications law and policy issues and is a savvy and effective advocate. He has a long track record of forging compromise among multiple stakeholders to get things done and a unique ability to develop and implement strategies to turn ideas into reality. I look forward to seeing the results he will produce as the leader of a talented team in his capacity as WIA’s chief policy strategist.”
Saperstein has worked at the intersection of broadband infrastructure law, policy and business for over 15 years. After his start at WIA (then PCIA), Mike worked for Frontier Communications, where he focused on rural broadband connectivity, including the implementation of the FCC’s groundbreaking Connect America Fund. He continued his work on broadband connectivity as a Vice President at USTelecom – The Broadband Association, where he led the Association’s advocacy to develop and implement critical programs to bring high-speed connectivity to all Americans, including the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund, Emergency Broadband Benefit Program, and the Affordable Connectivity Program. He also served at the FCC in the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau, helping the agency develop cybersecurity and resiliency policies, issues he continued to work on in the private sector. Most recently, Mike was a partner at the communications law firm Wilkinson Barker Knauer LLP (WBK).
The Wireless Infrastructure Association (WIA) represents the businesses that build, develop, own, and operate the nation’s wireless infrastructure. WIA advocates for the widespread, responsible deployment of wireless infrastructure to enable mobile broadband for communities everywhere.
